1. HOW DO YOU GET
PAID?
We charge clients a set-up fee that commits
our resources and covers or expenses in conducting
the search. It also qualifies clients; we
know they are serious about hiring an agency
and not “tire-kickers” just looking around.
An extension of an agency’s new business outreach,
Smarti receives a commission fee from the
agency that wins the business; it’s a performance-based,
worthwhile investment for finding an ideal
client. Business development consulting services
are charged on a project basis.
2. DO AGENCIES
PAY TO PARTICIPATE IN AGENCY REVIEWS?
No. Any agency is eligible to participate
in the agency review process. Smarti has a
proprietary database that is free for agencies
to register their basic information. Smarti
does not require agencies to “subscribe” or
pay any fees to be considered in searches.
Smarti receives a commission fee from the
agency that wins.
3. HOW IS SMARTI
DIFFERENT FROM OTHER AGENCY SELECTION FIRMS?
Smarti operates differently and does not require
agencies to “subscribe” or pay any fees to
be considered in searches. We know such a
“pay for play” model alienates agencies and
often results in ‘junk leads”. Risk-free,
Smarti doesn’t charge agencies anything up
front. Performance-based business development
support, Smarti receives a commission from
the agency that lands the business, scalable
according to the budget. We don’t promise
anything, and you may not hear from Smarti
for a while. But IF we find you your agency
an opportunity, we promise its right up your
alley!
We won’t waste your time, the clients’ time
or our own! We’re not the “fast track” to
the short-list. Smarti IS the short-list.
Unlike traditional agency selection firms
with go through long, cumbersome RFP processes
and typically have at least 25 agencies competing
for the account, Smart does the legwork and
provides clients with a qualified short-list
of 3 targeted agency “matches”. So IF you’re
in a pitch, we consider it an ideal” match
and you are a finalist. Plus, Smarti provides
valuable, comprehensive briefings so you’re
prepared for success.
Unlike other agency selection firms that specialize
in big brands and the Top 25 ad agencies and
PR firms, at Smarti we believe good things
come in smaller packages. Smarti specializes
in best-in-class boutique to mid-size agencies,
anywhere from a handful to 75 employees.
Our timing is quicker, too. By the time a
client hires Smarti, they are ready to hire
an agency. Clients usually meet agencies and
receive proposals to make a decision within
4 weeks of engaging Smarti.
4. HOW DOES IT
WORK?
The first step is Register your agency in
our database. When we have an opportunity
that might be a fit, we’ll connect to get
more information and to arrange for an in-person
meeting. We’ll review your portfolio, meet
key members of your team and talk to client
references. With the “Smarti Seal of Approval”,
you’re eligible for Agency Selection.
Should we identify a relevant opportunity
for your team, we’ll develop a snapshot on
your agency to present to the client, which
includes relevant experience for the particular
opportunity. With the client’s approval, we’ll
provide you with an in-depth Brief which includes
a backgrounder on the client, target audiences,
competitors, strengths, challenges, objectives,
current marketing initiatives, work assignment,
budget along with the key decision-makers,
to help you prepare for the Pitch.
5. WHAT IF WE DECLINE?
That’s always your option. We know you are
particular about which pitches to pursue.
At Smarti, we have a vested interest in making
an ideal match. If we present you with an
opportunity, it’s probably right up your alley!
6. HOW DO WE KNOW
WE HAVEN’T MET THE CLIENT ALREADY?
Smarti always debrief clients on their agency
history: with whom they have relationships
present and past, what they liked and didn’t
like. Smarti is all about value. A client
is not going to pay Smarti to meet agencies
they already know!
7. WHO AM I COMPETING
WITH?
Smarti specializes in boutique and mid-size
agencies, and pitches involve like-sized agencies.
(We would not put a 5-person boutique and
a global agency in the same pitch!) We know
what our clients want and what budget range
is in their comfort and reality zone. We also
know agencies’ financial requirements and
what makes a good fit. Smarti pitches put
agencies on a level playing field, since all
players are operating along the same parameters.
Decisions are usually come down to the agency
teams’ experience and team chemistry—the way
an agency should be hired.
8. WHO ARE YOUR
CLIENTS?
Smarti clients range from family run startups
to global companies, B2B and B2C, across a
range of industries. Our sweet spot is mid-size
companies with budgets from under $50k to
over $5M. Our clients tend to prefer high
caliber work, senior-level talent and lean
agencies. Every day is a new day, and we get
all types of new clients.
9. HOW DO ADVERTISERS
AND CLIENTS LEARN ABOUT SMARTI?
To get the word out, we make telephone calls,
send emails and direct mail postcards to decision
makers. We conduct email marketing and search
engine marketing campaigns. We attend and
exhibit at trade shows. Smarti has received
some media attention publicity, too.
10. OUR WEBSITE
IS NOT UP YET/WE’RE REDOING IT. SHOULD WE
STILL REGISTER?
NO! You don’t want to go in the Smarti database
“half-baked”. Please wait until you have it
together. Need some help? We can critique
your new business presentation and help you
uncover your agency’s unique DNA. We review
hundreds of agencies every year and have a
bird’s eye view of agency websites, capability
presentations and what resonates and what
sounds the same.
